  1. POW  - Powerline Offline reader for Windows

  4. Minimum System Requirements

  6. IBM AT 286 Compatible or better.  (VBRUN300.DLL Dated 12-May-93 for 286)
  7. 3Mb Memory minimum, preferably 4Mb or more.
  8. Windows v3.1.

  10. Terminal Font must be installed in Windows.

  12. BBS Settings
  13. ~~~~~~~~~~~~
  14. The BBS must be setup to provide QWK files as follows:-

  16. Packet type        - QWK
  17. Archiver       - ZIP
  18. Index Files (.NDX) - ON

  20. POW will display the following, if turned on in the BBS mail door:-

  32. The internal editor will recognise SpelMate spelling checker if appropriate 
  33. files are found in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory (SPELMATE.DLL and dics).
  34. Text in the edit box is spell checked except for quoted text which is left 
  35. alone (etiquette suggests that text quoted from another msg should not be
  36. altered other than formatting).  SpelMate requires about 1Mb extra memory.

  40. The Shareware Principle.

  42. POW is released under the Shareware principle.  You may use the
  43. program for up to 60 days for evaluation.  Please register POW
  44. if you find it useful.  Registration will remove the opening and 
  45. closing Shareware registration reminders, and provide funds to allow 
  46. continued development of POW.  Registered users will receive high
  47. priority for suggestions for improvements.

  49. When passing POW on to others or uploading please include all files in
  50. the ZIP without modification.  
  51.  
  52. Registered users:- Do NOT distribute the POW.INI file containing your
  53.                    registration details.

  56. Registration forms are provided in DOS and Windows format text.
  57. The Windows form may be accessed from within POW and completed/printed.

  77. GRID.VBX and CMDIALOG.VBX should be put in the Windows\System directory, 
  78. making sure you do not replace a newer version.

  80. POW uses COMMDLG.DLL (Windows DLL for Common Dialogs) which is provided 
  81. with Windows 3.1 and should be in your Windows\System directory.

  83. You will also need a copy of VBRUN300.DLL, the Visual Basic v3.0 runtime 
  84. library plus PKZIP.EXE & PKUNZIP.EXE v2.  These may be obtained from most 
  85. Bulletin Boards.   Make sure that the PK progs are in a directory on your 
  86. DOS Path (as specified in AUTOEXEC.BAT).  The VBRUN300.DLL file should be 
  87. put in the Windows\System directory.  The version dated 12-May-93 
  88. (or later) is required for a 286 computer (bug in earlier version).

  93. I addition to the icon in POW.EXE, an alternative icon for use in Program 
  94. Manager is provided (POW.ICO).

  97. Notes & Known Bugs:-
  98. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  99. If a Font other than Terminal (the default) is selected for message display
  100. the formatting may be incorrect and ASCII chars above 128 may not display
  101. correctly.  For correct display a fixed font with the ASCII(OEM) char set
  102. is required.  A fixed font is also recommended for printing messages to 
  103. give the right formatting (eg. Terminal or a Printer Font).

  108. This is the first Shareware version of POW.  It has been in Beta Test for 
  109. several months and bugs corrected when found but no guarantee is given or 
  110. implied that there are no further problems waiting to be found.
